The Marshfield Paper Boys perform a traditional Mummers play on Boxing Day in the village. The players or Mummers get their name from the strips of paper sewn onto their costumes, the origin is ancient and obscure. Rigidly obeying the oral tradition each player has learnt his part from another Mummer without resorting to a written text. Characters are King William, Little Man John, Dr Finnix, Tenpenny Nit, Beelzebub and Saucy Jack.
