This sjiecies is easilv recognizable, even if badh' ]ireserve(l. The substance is verv resistenf, .ind the is. therefore, at once conspicuous liv the characteristic shape of the umbrella. Moreoxer, in all the numerous specimens I have seen, traces of the sixteen groups of tentacles an' always distinguishable, even in specimens in a verv poor condition. The female gonads h,i\e never been propcrlv described, an<l unfortunately none ol' the female specimens at my disposal .-ire sufficiently well preserved to allow a closer examination of their gonads; I am, therefore, umible to .state whether thev have contained manv small eggs or few large ones. The male gona<ls are shiel(l-sha))ed, with the apex pointing towards the bell margin, and rather liat.
