The Ruins of Riasg Buidhe and abandoned fishing village on the Inner Hebridean island of Colonsay

Riasg Bhuidhe (The Yellow Moor) has been in existence for hundreds of years but unlike many such abandoned villages in Scotland the Clearances were not the reason for its demise. In the late 19th Century the landlord persuaded the villagers to leave their "run-rig" way of life for The Herring Fishing Industry. Partly because of the decline in the herrings and the location of the village most drifted away to a better location at Glassard to the south.
