This feature materially aids in the breeding of biennials by shortening the hazardous storage period. Block increases of progeny lines are grown here, the product of which becomes basic seed stock for field production. GREELEY, COLORADO Cucumbers, squashes, and melons thrive exceptionally well in the valleys of Colorado. Our plant breeders at the Greeley breeding grounds utilize the progeny performance method to determine the value of a selection for future stock seed purposes, since this group of species is highly cross-pollinated. The cucumber, squash, and melon fruits are harvested, and careful records are taken to determine the most desirable pedigreed lines.
