Go-ing up this river from Echo. Grass Creek flows inabout two and a half miles from the startingpoint. This creek and canon runs very nearlyparallel to Echo Creek. Very important and ex-tensive coal mines have been discovered fiom twoto four miles up this canon. It is not as wild orrugged in its formation as Echo Canon. Themines are soon to be developed. Two and a halfmiles above the mouth of Grass Creek is. PULPIT ROCK AND VALLEY.—LOOKINO SOUTHWARD. Codlrille,—a town of about 600 people, witha few elegant buildings, among which are theINlorraon bishops residence and a line two-storybrick court-house, which stands on an elevationnear the town, and can be seen for a long dis-tance. The town is situated on the south side ofChalk Creek where it empties into Weber creek also runs nearly parallel with EchoCanon, and rises in the mountains near the headof the Hilliard Lumber Companys flume. It iscalled Chalk Creek from the white chalky ap-pearance of the bluffs along its banks. Coalville is a Mormonvillage, and itsinhabitants arenearly all em-ployed in min-ing coal fromtwo to threemiles above thetown where therailroad road iscalled the Sum-mit CountyRailroad, and isowned by some^ of the wealthyj\I o r lu o n s i nSalt Lake miles far-ther up theAVeber, and youcome to Iloyts-ville, anotherMormon is a farmingsettlement.
