A well collects methane gas from decaying garbage at St. Clair County's Smith's Creek Landfill.
Smith's Creek, Michigan - A well collects methane gas from decaying garbage at St. Clair County's Smith's Creek Landfill. The methane is used by DTE Biomass Energy to generate enough electricity to power about 3,000 homes. The system prevents much of the methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, from escaping into the atmosphere. In the background, a windmill pumps methane from another well.
