Charles Augustus Young (1834-1908), US astronomer. Young was appointed professor of astronomy and physics at Dartmouth College in 1866, and then Professor of Astronomy at Princeton in 1877. He became a leading authority in solar astronomy, and his observations included the solar eclipse of 1870. He also wrote several popular astronomy textbooks, including Manual of Astronomy (1902). He was President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1883, and was awarded the 1891 Janssen Medal. This image was published in volume 16 (1908) of the US magazine Popular Astronomy.
