Physical culture . can then begin the various exercises soplainly illustrated in this article. Re- member to continue each exercise untilthere is a slight feeling of fatigue, and ifthe patient is being treated for a chronicdisease of any kind, the movementsshould be made a little more vigorous. The first exercise illustrated uses veryvigorously the muscles of the small ofthe back, and to a slight extent thebuttocks, or muscles on the back part ofthe hips. The towel should be changedtwo or three times while treating theback in this manner, and each time thechange is made, the towel should be ap-plied a little bit hotter than the previousone. The hot towel draws the bloodto the spine. In the next issue, I will illustrate amethod that can be used in instanceswhere one cannot secure the services ofan assistant. In other words, the readercan give the treatment to himself. Ofcourse, it cannot be given quite so satis-factorily, but at the same time, remark-able results can be achieved by its use inthis Movement No. 6.—Lay the open palm on top of the hot cloth as illustrated. Instructpatient to raise both legs to a perpendicular position as shown above. Return legs to thecouch and then continue the movement until there is a decided feeling of fatigue. The ab-dominal region can be massaged thoroughly after this treatment, if there is any functionaltrouble of the underlying organs. If no knowledge of massage is possessed, this part of thetreatment can be left out.
