At the time of the construction of the Kabala treatment plant, a World Bank report on the PROJET D'ALIMENTATION EN EAU POTABLE DE LA VILLE DE BAMAKO A PARTIR DE KABALA (BAMAKO DRINKING WATER SUPPLY PROJECT FROM KABALA) announced that - domestic wastewater in the city of Bamako comes mostly from laundry, bathing and dishwashing activities. Domestic wastewater production was estimated at 74,874 m3/day. - It is also estimated that -16,000 m³/d of wastewater from dyeing factories containing dyes, chemical pollutants, is discharged into the natural environment without treatment.
