The first build-ing not being large enough to accommo-date them all, a second one was erected byFather Sigismund, O. F. M., in 1902 at a cost of twenty thousand dollars. The high-school, commenced in 1891 was sup-pressed for financial reasons from 1895 to1898, but since then well equipped withlaboratories, has elicited the highest praiseof the best educators of the county. Thefaculty is represented by sixteen Sisters,under Sister M. Almira, the present su-perior. The school is conducted on a tui-tion plan, and although built by the Sa-cred Heart parish, children of other Cath-olic parishes are admitted on equal INTERIOR EPIPHANY CHURCH, MENOMINEE. In the basement of the new schoolbuilding are spacious rooms for theYoung Mens Catholic Club which hasnow a membership of two hundred. Therooms are equipped with bowling alleys,pool and billiard tables, a convenient li-brary, gymnasium and bath rooms. While so much was being done for theyouth of the parish the common comfortsof a modern church were not lost sight 1897 it was decided by a general meet-ing to replace the old wooden church, 280 HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF whicli was gettting to be too small, by anup-to-date structure. Plans, drawn byArchitect Picket of Cincinnati, embraceda church, a winter-chapel and the presby-tery, all under one roof. The chapel is di-rectly back of the sanctuary and adjoiningat
