Boer War - A 1900 photograph of the trumpet presented to the 'Hero of Colenso' , Bugler Dunn (John Francis Dunne) 1898-1950, of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, the regiment he joined as a boy bugler when aged 14. Wounded at Colenso, South Africa ( 15th Dec 1899), he he lost his bugle but so impressed the British public that he was declared a hero .Queen Victoria personally presented him with this silver inscribed replacement bugle at Osborne House.
