Royal Prussian Navy - an officer's dagger, circa 1850. Curved single-edge blade, with some rust pitting. S-shaped quillons, turned ivory grip. Pommel nut made from a Prussian naval uniform button. Brass scabbard with two suspension rings, with engraved acanthus leaves and the Prussian eagle on an anchor. The name "Barandon" is engraved on the back. Length 40 cm. Paul Barandon commanded the mail ship "Preußischer Adler" that was taken over along with its captain by the Prussian navy as an auxiliary war ship in 1849. Battle of Helgoland, 1864.
