The New Rose, "American ; A pink colored sport from the "American Beauty" and the grandest acqui- sition to the Rose family in many years. Raised by Mr. John Burton, of Chestnut Hill, one of the most successful rose growers in this country, it has created a sensation wherever shown, and has carried Fiest Honors at the recent exhibi- tions in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Cin- cinnati, and elsewhere throughout the United States. Both the flower and the foliage are entirely distinct from -those of the "American ; The color of the flower is a deep, clear pink, without the slightest tinge of blue, even after being cut for a few days. Instead of turning bluish as the "Beauty" does with age, the "Belle" becomes still more pink as the flowers get older. This characteristic is a most valuable one and makes this rose pe- culiarly desirable for cutting. In the bud stage the color of the flower is deeper, but as it expands the pink shade becomes pure and distinct , mak- ing it a fit companion for the "Beauty," to which beautiful vatiety it is an aux- iliary or companion, and not a competi- tor.
