The Statues of London,England. October 2012 Seen here: Henry Bartle Frere. Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, 1st Baronet, GCB, GCSI, (29 March 1815 – 29 May 1884) was a British colonial administrator, involved in South African Zulu and Boer Wars,India and Afghanistan. He was recalled from South Africa by Gladstone to face charges of misconduct in 1880. He was played by Sir John Mills in Zulu Dawn. His portrayal in the film is negative. He is depicted as a corrupt, greedy, deeply racist administrator who casually orders the invasion of Zululand after issuing his unfair, biased, impossibly demanding ultimatum. We pass them without so much of a glance but I decided to walk the embankment and Westminster area of London and take a good long look at the Statues of London. Most of the works are of Victorians many we have never heard of such as those who reformed the British educations system or built our drains or who gave us clean drinking water. Others are those who helped to defend this country from the Victorian era to the present day.
