Williams,H. G. Tinsley,J. C. History of §igma C^^^ Colors—Old Gold and Blue. The Sigma Chi fraternity was founded at Miami University, Oxford,Ohio, June 20, 1855. Its founders were seven in number, six of whomhad been members of Delta Kappa Epsilon, but owing to internaldissentions in the chapter, a rupture soon occured. Six of the membersof Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon with the addition of anotherimmediately formed themselves into a society called Sigma Phi. Achapter at Ohio Wesleyan was soon established and in a short timeother chapters followed and the name was changed to Sigma Chi. Thefraternity now took its place among the fraternities of older establish-ment. At the beginning of the war eleven chapters had been established,a number of them being in the South. The war put a checkon the progress of the fraternity, bat since the war the growth of SigmaChi has been rapid, the sixtieth chapter being established last October,at Cornell University.
