The College subscribes for the leading literary, scientific andagricultural journals, while the principal daily and weeklypapers of Kansas, and many from other states, are received inexchange for the College publications. All these are kept onfile for the use of students and Faculty. The College has beendesignated as the depository of United States public docu-ments for the fifth congressional district of Kansas, and 3580volumes have already been received on this account. It gives a substantial education to men and general information and discipline of mind and char-acter as help to make intelligent and useful citizens are offeredin all its departments, while the students are kept in sympathywith the callings of the people. Second. It teaches the sciences applied to the various indus-tries of farm, shop, and home. Chemistry, physics, bacteri-ology, botany, entomology, zoology and mechanics are madeprominent means of education to quick observation and accu-rate judgment. Careful study of the minerals, plants and ani-mals themselves illustrates and fixes the daily lessons. At thesame time lessons in agriculture, horticulture, engineering andhousehold economy show the application of science; a
