The people appear to have money and are spending it freely; also they are giving a large number of receptions and dances. While the amount of flow- ers purchased for each dance may be comparatively small, the aggregate amounts to a great deal. The florists are benefiting by this in the number of corsage bouquets they are now called upon to make up. A visit to some of the greenhouses reveals a fair outlook for Christmas stock. At the present moment it is scarce and is probably being held for the larger Christmas demand. The prices have already advanced and a further advance may be expected be- fore Christmas. Various Notes. The regular business meeting of the Toronto Eetail Florists' Club will be held in its rooms December 8. The grow- ers have been invited to attend. It is hoped that the growers may be per- suaded to cooperate with the retailers for the betterment of the trade in gen- eral. C. L. Vis, of the firm of Van Meeuwen ft Tegelaar, Holland, wholesale bulb merchants, was in Toronto last week calling on the trade. The late Herman J. Simmers left an estate valued at $156,813. This is left to the widow, his sister, his nephews and niece. The estate was chiefly real estate, including shares in property on Yonge street and King street and an in- terest i> J. A.
