This mountain isan extinct volcano, last seen in activity byScoresby in 1818, rising to a height of 835ofeet. We were exceptionally fortunate tosee it in all its splendor, since it is usuallyenshrouded in fog, and even on this clearday a wide belt of mist obscured the lowerthird. When first sighted, the mountain seemedbut a mile or two away, although it was reallyfifteen.
