Thewhole load and plant was an ideal proposition for pur-chasing current from a Central Station, but with thatengine, an investment in a 75-kw. generator and motordrive would soon pay for itself. BABBITT SEPARATOR BY J. V. HENRY An effective machine for reclaiming babljitt whichdrops on the floor around furnaces and tables is shown inthe illustration. It is an improvement over the method ofreclaiming babbitt from floor sweepings by placing thesweepings in the melting pot, and skimming the dirt oilthe top. With the use of the separator there is less dangeof foreign substances getting into the balibitt and affectinjits quality. The construction of the machine is plainly \fter sufficient sweepings have accumulated in the largefunnel to warrant operation, they are lowered into the firstdrum by means of the damper and small funnel and themachine started. .\s the drum revolves the larger pieces. ^< -JO- J Machine Used for Separating Babbitt from Floor Sweepings of babbitt coming in contact with the 1-in. by 1-in. anglesriveted to the barrel, are broken up, liberating any dirt thatthey might contain. The babbitt and dirt then pass throughthe eight 1-in. holes into the second drum made of finescreen, from which the dirt drops to the floor while the bab-bitt passes out of the end and down the chute. The screendrum is covered with a hood which prevents any dust fromflying around the shop. The machine may be either belt or motor driven andshould revolve at about 25 Increased Railway Fares in Ireland.—The recent in-crease in ordinary passenger fares b}- 50 per cent on therailways in Great Britain was ordered to apply to Irelandfrom June 1.
