Private Frank J. Lortie, brother-in-lawof H. G. Smith, of the H. G. Smith-wholesale company, Regina, has beengassed, and admitted to a field hospital,according to word received by Private Lortie was serving withthe 15th Battalion, Toronto, and was inthe trenches 15 months. Brand, of Glasgow, Scotland,director of the Acadia Sugar RefiningCo., Halifax, , died on Sunday, the4th inst., at Halifax, Mr. Brandcame to Canada about two years agorepresenting the interests of Scotchshareholders of the company. At no timeduring this period was he in robusthealth, being well up in years, and fol-lowing the effects of the disastrous ex-plosion at Halifax on December 6 last,Mr. Brands health rapidly declined. , two daughters and one son werewith him at the last and one other sonand daughter survive him
