The boiler is a horizontal tubular, sixteen feet long and sixty inches in diameter, and contains fifty-four 4-inch flues. There is a 2-foot steam dome with a 4-inch opening and there is a 21^-inch inlet at the bottom of the boiler. The boiler shed is at the north- west corner of the range and along the west side. The bottom of the boiler is a little below the level of the floor of the greenhouses. If I use steam heat, how* many 1^- inch pipes will be required for each apartment, to maintain a temperature of 50 to 60 degrees? What size of flow pipes will be needed? On account of the boiler not being lower, will it be necessary to use a steam trap? If I use hot water, how many 2-inch pipes and what size of flows "ipill be needed? In that case, will it be necessary to install a generator? In order to use hot water, what changes must be made, especially with reference to the size of the outlet and inlet? J. W. M. The openings in the boiler are all right for steam; in fact, a slightly smaller flow might be used, but I would suggest that you start with a 4-inch and reduce to 3-inch after taking off a feed pipe to the nearest house.
