Brain. Historical anatomical artwork of the human brain in contrast with a modern Coloured Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan. Both show a side view of the head. The historic artwork is from the 19th- century book Atlas of Anatomy, by Bourgery and Jacobone and shows parts of the skin and skull and the outer membranes and blood vessels covering the brain. Also the folded surface of the cerebrum, the main part of the brain scan. On the right a modern coloured Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan through a human head, showing a healthy brain.
