3D ultrasound cardiography. Cardiologist performing a 3D ultrasound scan of the heart, and examining the results. The system in use here incorporates elements of a head-mounted display (HMD), with the cardiologist wearing purpose-built viewing equipment and observing the results of the scan in a mirror (bottom). He is also using polygons (in his hands, not seen, below mirror) to rotate the 3D image of the heart. Ultrasound scans use reflections of high-frequency sound waves from within the body to build up a picture of internal structures. Photographed in 2011.
