I encountered this resting hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) near Sipadan, a tiny island some miles off Borneo's north-east coast. This diving destination is celebrated for the plurality of turtles which congregate in the vicinity. During each of 18 dives there, I never saw fewer that twelve. Many have become habituated to the presence of humans and allow one to get near them.
