Thischapel, Bishop Pococke says in his Tour of 1760, was built on the site ofan older Chapel, that of St John, and although very plain in style had quitea venerable appearance. This Bishop Pococke, says the CambridgeChronicle of 1765, was the only bishop of the Church of Englandsince the Revolution that preached and confirmed in Scotland.
