Malta, satellite image. North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation is brown and green and developed areas are grey. The Republic of Malta is an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. It is made up of five islands, three of which are populated: Malta (lower right); Gozo (upper left) andÂComino (between the two). Malta's capital and main port is Valletta (grey) situated around two inlets on Malta's northern coastline.
