Tourists looking at The Timewheel hourglass Budapest Hungary Europe
The Timewheel is one of the world's largest hourglasses, standing 8 metres high and weighing 60 tonnes. It was unveiled on 1st May 2004 to mark Hungary's entry into the EU. The sand flows from the upper to the lower chamber for one year, finishing exactly at midnight on New Year's Eve, when the wheel is reset to begin its annual flow.
