Rules of brist and instructions for throwing the brist boomerang, 1903 . VI. To throw combined Up-and-Down curve, dothe same way as you would to throw horizontalcircle, except you must fold blades about one-half closed, then throw straight out, but notquite so hard, and the Boomerang will soon tipover and curve upward. It should be thrown justhard enough to make it rise fifteen to twentyfeet, when it will then curve around and returnto thrower, as shown by clotted lines in Figure (17) SOME DONTS. Dont forget instruction regarding wind; forbest results in throwing there should be littleor no wind, as every movement of the air has itseffect to a greater or less extent upon the Boom-erang. Before throwing, be sure you have di-rection of wind rightly located by noting move-ment of smoke from some near-by chimney. Dont fail to start the Boomerang off in anupright position when throwing the horizontalcircle. Dont imagine you have learned it all whenyou have succeeded in making Boomerang re-turn to you. Dont associate the Brist Boomerang with anyother Boomerang about which you have ever reador heard. Remember that it bears no resem-blance whatever to, and is constructed on entirelydifferent lines and principles from those em-bodied in that which is known as the AustralianBoomerang, which is simply a peculiarly bentor crooked piece of wood that cannot be thrownaccurately, even by the semi-civilized Bushmenof Australia with whom it originated, withoutyears of practice.
