Indian Ocean, surface temperatures. Computer graphic of the Indian Ocean on an Earth globe, generated using satellite and mapping data. Cloud-free satellite images show the natural land colours. Satellite-measured sea surface temperature anomalies are colour-coded (orange and yellow are warmer than normal, blue and green are colder than normal). At left, the warm Agulhas Current sweeps south and west along the coast of southern Africa. To the south are the cold waters of the eastward Circumpolar Current of the Southern Ocean. Data obtained by the Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR) on ESA's ERS-1 satellite.
