The operations of Replantation, Transplan-tation, and Implantation, of teeth are usuallyfollowed by a rarefying periodontitis, whichmay extend over the entire root of the displacement resulting from a blowor fall, and malocclusion, are also causes ofthis condition, while in some cases no definitelocal cause can be assigned, the root becomingabsorbed, apparently, as a result of some obscurereaction of the surrounding tissues. To the naked eye the appearance of thelesions will depend upon the severity of theprocess and the position in which absorptionoccurs. When the irritation has been slight,continuous, and affecting the ajiex of the tooth,the root is usually rounded and moderatelysmooth. When the process has acted upondifferent parts of the root at the same time (asis the case with many
