Genus Scrippsia Torrey, 1909. Scrippsia, Torrey, 1909, Publications University ofCalifornia, Zool., vol. 6, p. 14. This jrenus resembles the closelyallied Polyorchis (see page 218), but isdistinguished by its gelatinous, gastricpeduncle and the absence of pinnatebranches on the radial-canals distal tothe gonads. The gonads are long andtubular as in Polyorchis, but are con-fined to the radial-canals over the 1G 3*7peduncle. The tvpe species is Scrippsia pacifica from the coast of Scrippsia pacifica, after Torrey, in University of CaliforniaPublications in Zoology. Scrippsia pacifica pacifica, Torrey, 1909, University of California Publications, Zool., vol. 6, p. 15, fig. 3. Umbrella 75 mm. high, deep bell-shaped with a slight apical prominence. The tentaclesare long and tapering and arranged in 7 cycles: 4, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128. The 4 perradialtentacles are the longest and project from the sides of the exumbrella at a zone one-fifth the 494 MEDUSAE OF THE WORLD. distance toward the apex above the margin. The interradial, adradial, etc., tentacles alsoproject from the sides of the exumbrella but at successively lower levels, nearer the bell-margin. All of the tentacles are joined by peronial strands to the ring-canal. The tentaclebases of the last two cycles bear ocelli. The gastric peduncle is broadly conical and morethan half as long as the depth of the subumbrella cavity. The manubrium is short with 4fairly prominent,
