War Memorial at Ham Hill Country Park with extensive veiws towards the Mendips and Quantocks.
The memorial is situated in a prominent position on a hill top within Ham Hill Country Park and can be seen from three counties. It is constructed of Ham stone, a local limestone, and takes the form of an Obelisk upon a square set stone plinth. The plinth stands on a four-stepped base and carries inscribed inscriptions on each face and has a bronze wreath part way up the obelisk on the north elevation. The memorial was designed in 1920, unveiled in 19th July 1923 by HRH the Prince of Wales to commemorate 44 local people who lost their lives in WWI. There are two bronze plaques which were added to commemorate local people who lost their lives, 8 in WWII, and 1 in Northern Ireland in 1988. The memorial was awarded Grade II listing on 27 October 1988. It is approximately 5m wide at the first step by approximately 8m high - War Memorials On-Line
