It has notbeen the intention of the authors to treat this sub-ject from an economical standpoint, although econ-omy in design was sought after, nor to prepare acomplete set of working drawings, inasmuch as lackof time and available data did not v/arrant such adeep research. It has been our intention, however, to workcut a preliminary design with the data at hand, suchas might serve as an invaluable aid in promoting thescheme from a financial standpoint, and also to in-corporate in a set of specifications in securingcontractual bids for such an enterprise. Originalityhas been cur chief aim, and v/e have earnestly soughtafter a practical application of the engineeringprinciples pertinent to hydro-eiectric Photograph Wo. 2 The Palls of the Normanskill, LCCATICN CP SITE AUD ITb ADVAl>ITAC-iiS Frenchs Mills, the site cf this hydraulic in-stallation, is a small manufacturing center situatedabout 10 miles northwest cf Albany, and 7 miles duesouth cf Schenectady, N. Y. Its industries are few,yet sufficient to make use cf the available electricpower as developed in this installation. The advantages of location are excellent. Abranch of the N. Y. W. A. oc B. R. R. extends throughthis section of the country within e shoft distancecf the site, and thus affords a convenient meansof communication with Albany or Schenectady, fromwhich all construction material and miscellaneousequipment could be shipped. Moreover from a stand-point cf economy, within a radius of 5 miles of theplant site are situated the towns cf Puller, Meadow-dale, Guilderland, Guilderland Center, Altamont,Dunnsville and Schenectady, thus affording an excell-cpportuni
