Pope Luna, as Benedict XIII of Avignon is known, moved the papal seat to Peñiscola and lived in the old Templar castle until his death in 1423, the city of Peñiscola wanted to pay tribute to this very important character of the city and so it was as in November 2007 the statue of Pope Luna was placed right at the entrance of the Templar fortress whose castle bears his name.
