This image may not be used to state or imply the endorsement by NRAO, AUI or NSF of any company or product Dust disc around HD 107146, Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) image. HD 107146 is a Sun-like star around 88 light years from Earth in the constellation of Coma Berenices. The disc is seen face on, and has a distinct central hole. This may be due to planets in the process of forming, sweeping the area clear of remaining dust. Dust in the outer reaches of the disk is thicker than in the inner regions, suggesting that smaller objects in the inner ares are smashing together. The dark ring-like structure in the middle portion of the disk may be evidence of a gap where a planet is sweeping its orbit clear of dust. These observations were made in 2012.
