In older horses the molars sometimes become uneven, sharp or decayed. The animal shows this by holding the head to one side while eating, quidding the hay, frothing and slavering at the mouth, pull- ing or lugging at one rein, loss of condition, staring coat, irregularities of the bowels, and general ill condition. Treatment: Examine by placing the horse in a good light, seize the tongue in the left hand, draw gently to one side, place the thumb against the roof of the mouth and the teeth may be plainly viewed. Reverse the order to see the other side of the mouth. Watch closely for scars on the cheeks or.
