Fruit fly pest control research. Researcher applying methoprene to a newly emerged adult male Caribbean fruit fly (Anastrepha suspensa). The Caribbean fruit fly is a pest of various cultivated fruits. Methroprene is a hormone that acts as a growth regulator when used as an insecticide. This research is being done to evaluate the effects of methoprene in accelerating sexual development in order to disrupt the fly's life cycle and prevent reinfestation. Photographed at the Center for Medical, Agricultural, and Veterinary Entomology, Gainesville, Florida, USA.
