BURPEE'S LOUISE STRAWBERRY In Burpee's Louise, originated by Nicholas Hallock, of Creed- moor, New York, and first introduced by us, we have a new strawberry of remarkable merit. In June, 1887, at the Queen's County Exhibition of Strawberries, The Louise too^ first prize for best quality, in competition with such favorite sorts as Behnont, Hen- derson, Sharpless, Longfellow, etc., also first prize for best new variety. It also took first prize for best quart of berries of any variety. It is immensely productive, has yielded, under ordinary field culture on the farm of the originator, four times as much as Sharpless. It has a rugged constitution, foliage plentiful and healthy, never rusts, and has borne for seven years on both light and heavy soils, always yielding large crops. As shown in the illustration of "a cluster given'in our Farm Annual for 1SS9, the large, handsome ber- ries are carried in large clusters, on strong stalks. In superb quality and fiavor Burpee's Louise is unsurpassed and scarcely equaled, as was testified by the first prizes mentioned in such strong competition, in the very centre of a famous strawberry district. It isastaminate (self-fertilizing) variety. 50 cts. per doz.; 25 plants for §, or per 100 plants by mail, postpaid. This new fruit from Japan has provoked considerable discussion as to its history, etc., but all unite ai> to its distinct character and handsome appearance. Below we repri
