The figure of a boy with a dog,of which a separate illustration is given, serves as alamp-holder, the model for this figure being thearchitects son, who in years to come will see aportrait of himself as he was at the time the housewas built. It will be observed, too, that at the topof the pillars of the front railing are figures ofgeese carved in stone, here employed as symbols ofwatchfulness.
