CONGO, 27th Sept 2012: Tree trunks in a legal logging concession's timber yard awaiting cutting before being shipped out of the country for export. this area is in the world's second-largest rainforest, the Western Congo Basin Moist Forest in Central Africa. This region, one of the richest eco-regions in Africa in terms of biodiversity, faces increasingly severe threats from commercial logging and mining. The area is also a target for large-scale commercial hunting of wild meat and ivory, which often uses logging concession access roads.
