Dr. Benjamin Mason, eldest son ofBenjamin Mason and Mary Ayrault(of Daniel 2d), his wife, was born inMarch, 1762. November 8, 1788,he was married at Narragansett, by Rev. William Smith, to MargaretChamplin, of Christopher. After studying in the office of Dr. Isaac Sen-ter, he completed his medical education in London. At the death of , who held the appointment at the time, he was made Director andPurveyor-General of the Military Hospital of Rhode Island. He was anhonorary member of the Massachusetts Medical Society. His career inNewport was as short as it was brilliant, for he died at the early age offorty years.
