Italdesign Qaranta hybrid-powered concept car, designed by Frabizio Giugiaro, on display at Farnborough Airshow 2010

Designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro, the Italdesign Qaranta premiered at the 2008 Geneva Motorshow. A concept supercar with a difference, the Qaranta is a hybrid-powered, 3-seater, all-wheel-drive, mid-engined sports car, easily capable of 200 KPH. Powered by a Toyota litre DOHC V6 208 HP engine, with 167 HP front electric motors and 68 HP electric motors, the Qaranta also incorporates battery charging from both Toyota's regenerative braking system, and from solar panels on both the front and rear horizontal surfaces. These solar panels can generate up to 250 watts of power in sunshine. The car is hand-built and has a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, with bodywork a combination of aluminium and composite materials.
