Gold, of New York, has recently placed upon the mar-ket a combination of gate or door with locking device which is re-|w,ri.,l to hcen most successful in operation, fully meeting the. requirements of railway service. This type of gate is in use on theelevated roads in Brooklyn, where traffic is very heavy, and the ad-vantage of the gates requiring a very small space for (heir opera- forms for the purpose of operating folding gates, which obviouslymay be of diflercnt designs. The double gate illustrated in Figs. I and 2 consists of two leaveshinged together, the primary leaf being hinged to a support on thecar platform. Ihe primary hinge is swung back by means of anarrangement of levers which is the same as has been for years ap-plied to the solid type of gate. The secondary leaf in the designillustrated is operated by an additional link. Fig. I shows the gateopen, and Fig. 2 the gate closed. Other arrangements for manipulating the secondary leaf of thegate are lazy tongs placed either at the top or at the bottom. Fig. 3 shows Ihe arrangement of Ihe lazy tongs at the bottom. This new device is covered by very broad patents.«»» THE NOARK
