The superintendent of the Lighting Department ofSeattle, Wash., J. D. Ross, claims that city was the firstto use for street lighting the new nitrogen filled tung-sten lamp, which gives an efficiency approximately twicethat of the ordinary tungsten. The department was alsothe first to use low voltage tungsten lamps. They arenow experimenting to determine the practicability ofusing electricity for heating the home. The business district is illuminated by an ornamentalcluster lighting system, five-globe poles being placed op-posite each other at the curb line and spaced from 80 to90 feet apart.
