(1995) mentioned that kelp bass is an active predator around kelp beds and rocky reef habitats, feeding on motile organisms including fish, squid, octopi and benthic crustaceans, and concluded that a large portion of their prey were taken from the water column. These results were confirmed for adult kelp bass inhabiting the kelp beds of Todos Santos Bay, Ensenada, that fed mainly on fishes (Mendoza-Carranza, 1995).
