A Hellenistic Carnelian intaglio with gryllos in a Roman silver ring, 1st century and 3rd century Very finely crafted intaglio dating from the late Hellenistic period with an optical illusion of three heads which appear to change depending on the viewer's perspective (gryllos): a young woman, a bearded man and a satyr. Excellent portraits. Set in a silver ring dating from the 3rd century, the intaglio loose today. Intaglio x cm. Minimal chipping at the edge, the overall image not affected thereby.
