WILLSON General Superintendent Washington Water Power Company,Spokane, Wash. Hard bronze trolley wheels are used by this com-pany, and they are cast and finished in the shop. Thecity wheel weighs about 3 lb., and costs us 80 cents,the interurban wheel weighs 4% lb., and costs us $,these figures being based on before-the-war prices. The composition of the bronze is 79 per cent copper,8 per cent tin, 8 per cent lead, and 5 per cent DETAILS OF HOME-MADE TROLLEYWHEELS, AND AIR-BRAKE CYL-INDER CONVERTED INTOTROLLEY WHEEL PRESS At present each melt consists of 130 lb. of scrap brass,20 lb. of copper, 2 lb. of tin, 2 lb. of lead and 1 lb. ofzinc. After being cast the wheels are taken to the ma-chine shop and turned in a turret lathe. The wheel isheld in a special chuck which supports the outside of thecasting while the cut is being made with a tool of high-grade steel. After being turned the wheels are placed on a home-made press, illustrated above, and the bushings arepressed in. The bushings for the city wheels are % diameter and % in ling. As shown in the drawingstwo bushings are used for each wheel and betweenthem in the oil reservoir is placed a felt filler whichfeeds the oil from the reservoir to the pins.
