Ancient Egyptian. Fragment of an Inlay (Perhaps Part of a Collar). 100 BC–100 AD. Mediterranean Region. Glass, mosaic technique Mosaic glass was made of bundles of colored glass rods that were arranged in a pattern then fused together with heat into a solid cane. The cane was reheated and stretched to make a smaller compact design. Many nearly identical pieces could be cut from a single cane and then formed into inlays. The fragment with a double row of tiny flowers on its edge may have been part of an inlay depicting a wide collar worn by a king or a deity.
