It is of a very striking appearance, producing bright red fruits, which are enclosed in a semi-transparent calyx or leafy capsule of an oval, conical shape, generally measuring about 3 inches in length, and from 7 to 8 inches in circumference, and varying from bright orange-scarlet in color when Hear- ing maturity. The plant is of sturdy habit, upright, unbranched, and grows PhysaliS about 1-i feet in height.
