They are undoubtedly the finest of all Sweet Sultans for cut flower purposes, and should soon supercede all other varieties. Thev are the result of a cross between C. AJoschata and C. MargaritcE, and inherit from the latter the beautiful sweet-scented, artistic-shaped flowers, but much improved in size and borne on long, strong stems, and when cut will stand fur several days in good condition. Ihe plant itself is much stronger than any other Sweet Sultan, of the easiest possible culture, flowering contin- uously from early summer till autumn. Commenting on the Koveliies for 1899, a leading horticultural paper says of them : " The premier place must be assigned to Centaurea Impenaiis, which is one of the most important in- troductions of the present decade. The plant is vigorous, growing nearly 4 feet high, easy to grow, and literally covered with enormous flowers nearly double the size of C. Margarila, with the same odor and same form ; the stems are long enough to satisfy the most ; (See cut.) We offer the following distinct colors : PER PKT.
